Happy New Year to everyone and what better way to start the new year by writing few thoughts related to my favorite sport – cricket.
My 6 year old son is a cricket lover – plays, watches and talks about cricket a lot. We were watching Big Bash League match few days back and he asked me about the teams and players. I told him it’s the Australian IPL and he straight away asked what are the cities and their team names? It was such an easy connect for him since he follows Indian Premier League IPL big time and knows quite a bit about team names, captains and players involved. He remembered and said that the Kabaddi matches also are like this only. He could relate there too and remembered we had gone to see the finals of first year where Jaipur Pink Panthers had defeated Mumbai team UMumba.
Being a sportsman and sports lover, I know and have experienced injuries and how strong impact they can have on any sportsman physically & emotionally. We all play games and sports and we all have to hurt ourselves or injured ourselves at some point and I am sure most of you will agree that Volini is one of first names to come to mind in case of sports injuries. Volini over the years have become such a reliable pain relief partner. Volini now has joined hands with Pro Kabaddi League team Patna Pirates who are led by superstar Rakesh Kumar.
To start their association they had a bloggers meet with representatives of Volini and players of Patna Pirates Kabaddi team. Mr. Subodh Marwah, Vice President & Head Global Consumer Healthcare, Sun Pharma announced the big news. This is second such collaboration as Pain Relief partner by Volini after being associated with Marathons across all over India. He gave insights and a slide show with pictures on how Volini is building base and trying to improve and help in these partnerships with different sports.
I love cricket – simple. In every possible form and manner I just love it. I can play, watch, read, hear, converse, think, browse, update, live stream and whatever is possible do with and for cricket. I love lot of sports like tennis, football, hockey, table tennis, squash, formula one, etc but still cricket has a special place and it is a actually a religion in our house, family, community or country at large. The emotions and feelings attached with cricket and one man Sachin Tendulkar is way beyond words for me. I am sure lot of my family members & friends who know me closely will not deny with the previous statement of mine. With cricket words and emotions don’t need any excuse or reason to flow, it just happens automatically – such is the impact of this game. I have met so many people crazier than me for this game and I love meeting such people.
Kapil Dev has always been one of the most inspiring sportsman India has ever produced. In cricket I personally keep him just after Sachin as the greatest Indian cricketer. Whether it was batting or bowling or fielding or captaincy I feel Kapil Dev was at par with one of the best in the world throughout his career. Obviously the peak of his greatness was winning the Cricket world cup in 1983 and becoming the highest wicket taker in Test cricket. Whatever he did throughout his career he did with high esteem and total commitment for his country. His dedication and discipline right through his career was again very inspiring. In short whatever he did and spoke was meant to be taken seriously.
It is been 6 months since Pratham joined JBCN International school at their Parel branch in Mumbai and till now it has been a very satisfying and eventful journey. The good part about the school is their positive intention to involve parents in every aspect of schooling – classes, food, bus services, etc .Various activities involving kids, parents & teachers have been organised and JPPL is one of them.
JPPL – JBCN Parents Premier League is a cricket tournament hosted and organised by JBCN International School every year for the fathers of children studying in their school. To start the league there is a auction of Icon players and Value players. The format is simple – 12 teams divided in 4 groups and top 2 teams in each group qualify for playoffs where they play quarters, semis & finals. The league round is played with tennis balls in 8-8 over format on the big terrace of the school building and the quarters, semis and finals are played in 10-10 over format with proper season ball at iLand ground in Wadala.
JPPL this year –
The league stage was played on 21-22 November 2014, where we entered as the new team – KINGS ( fathers of students from Nursery ). Our aggressive and responsible captain Dhaval Shah made lot of efforts of getting the players, kit, team gear, practices, etc in place. I have always believed that Cricket is one the of the best ice breakers for any set of people, our case was no different. We all got along very well and this started a new friendship which I’m sure will go a long way.
